The Great Trip North

Good Morning! I wanted to start a blog for our family and friends to keep up with Jarod and me. As some of you know, and many who don't, my boyfriend Jarod and I are moving to New Hampshire for about 6 months. Jarod is normally a pilot in the Air Force flying for the Hurricane Hunters (yes, into Hurricanes!) in Biloxi, but we both wanted a break from Mississippi, and a great opportunity arose for Jarod to come work at a base outside of Manchester, NH. He will be doing Project Management work (which sounds a lot different from a pilot, but this is what his degree is actually in). We are super excited to explore the area around New England, and I already know about 15 people who live in the area, so it will be great to be near them!
I am so excited about travelling around NH, VT, ME, Niagara Falls, Boston, Canada, Newport and just the whole area.
But first, let me fill you in on our disastrous trip up here. Originally we were set to leave on Thursday, March 18th. On Wednesday, Jarod was going to take my car to base to have the brand new tires put on my car. Well, my car decided not to start. Awesome. Jarod worked on it all day Wednesday changing out the spark plugs and such. Still no luck. So, Thursday, I had to have it towed to Mazda. We were obviously not leaving that day. After working on it all day, Mazda got it running, but recommended an engine replacement. Great. Jarod rushed it over to base to get the tires put on, however, in the hurry, he had mistakenly left the tire locker tool at home. So, he scheduled it for 645 am on Friday, with plans to leave right after they were put on. Several hours later, we were finally ready to leave. Goal for the drive : Gaitlinburg, TN. We made to Meridian, MS and while filling up, I went inside for a drink where I was told "Sweetheart, your tire is flat". Ugh, really? Jarod filled it up and we found the closest Firestone to be in Birmingham, AL. Luckily, our route went right through there. Once we finally made it there, they told me the people who put on the tires charged me for new "tire pressure monitoring sensors" but didn't put them on and all of my tires had a slow leak. So they replaced them and we were on our way. Unfortunately, my tire continued to have a leak the whole drive, so we had to refill the one bad tire about 4 times a day. I will be having this fixed immediately.
Night one in Gaitlinburg was not so good. Staying in a hotel with dogs is awful. And we have three between us, so it's triple awful! Kaia and Kirby had never stayed in a hotel before and after 9 hours in the car were extremely restless. I didn't sleep at all and it made the 11 hour drive the next day not so fun.
We made it to Scranton, PA the next night. It was kind of a cool city and I saw lots of scenes from the TV show "The Office." It was cool. However, not only was there a tattoo convention going on at our hotel, but they had no parking that would accommodate the UHaul. So after 45 minutes of driving around the block, they finally were able to help us. Next task, sneak in Kirby (the small dog). So, into a suitcase bag he went! (Hey, pet fees are expensive!!!) After another disastrous night in the hotel, we set out for our last day of driving. Yay!
We made it to Manchester at 6pm last night. It was a beautiful drive, but much longer then we thought it would be. We found a kennel and put the dogs up in it so we didn't have to have them in the hotel. We had hoped to be in our new place for the night, but we are still working things out with the realtor.
Today is Jarod's first day at work. We are hoping to sign the lease on the condo this afternoon. But if not, we'll be in by the end of the week. The Realtors we have been dealing with haven't really understood the urgency in getting us in quickly. As much as you tell them you want to be in by a certain date, they just take their sweet time!
I'll keep everyone updated on all of our adventures up here, as I am sure there will be many. Hopefully Jarod will have time to write occasionally as well.
If anyone would like to come and visit, we'd love to have you anytime!
